Dastkar ,Delhi 2011 :-))

DASTKAR DELHI,2011
Did you see that Smiley on the title?I just couldn't help but put one ...Why?? 'coz it was my first ever Dastkar craft fair visit...Really like First Ever !!Being in the US all these years I would just blog hop and see pictures of this colorful arts and crafts fair and *sigh*!! as visiting India at this time of the year was impossible with school and all...So when I saw the advertisement of the Dastkar Mela in the news paper ..I was like" I Have To Go ".
This time the theme being 'CAMEL'.The above picture was at the grand entrance.Thankfully the weather being favourable today , it was an enjoyable and exciting  day for me ....so many cute and beautiful objects under one roof.Though in Delhi one can always find most of these crafts object through the year , but the magic associated with visiting these crafts fair is amazing and fun.I Heard from some friends come february there is one huge crafts fair held in Faridabad(suburb of Delhi) called 'Surajkund' mela .So If I am still hanging around in Delhi more specifically India , I promise to hop there as well and share the experience with y'all :)Ok !! no more talking ...come lets see what all were there on display and then as you scroll down you'll  see my haul  :){I love to put smiley signs a lot...If you were sitting right across me , probably you'll soon associate me with some tooth paste ad !!:)}

Wish I could grab a few more...

And now what did I bring home ?Ok ! scroll down....

Bags !!No!! No!!...I did not just get theses bags empty !! :-))

Terracotta chimes from Andhrapradesh
I had seen some of this cute wooden boxes before in  blogland ...Now I have one too :)

Let me tell you all something about this art form.Firstly , its simply beautiful. The picture here is not doing much justice. This is SIKKI HANDY ART AND CRAFT.Sikki is vetiver grass which is said to be sacred. The scupltures in the painting are made by cutting , bending and pasting the grass !!Such an intricate and difficult method..but the result simply beautiful !!But a bit on the pricier side so I bought a smaller one..this Radha-krishna ..A little easy on the purse.Scroll up to see some more of this art work photos I took.

ahh !! some chai ho jaye ...I say :)
A folded chatai , terracotta hanging bell and some diyas were also purchased...pictures of which I'll put later as I am putting some more colors on them...that is jazzing them up a bit more .
Now I have to find some place to put them all up .Hope you all  had fun going through this post.
Come back for more at ETHNICALLY CHIC  home :)
Your visit not only inspires me but makes me super happy.
    Hugs and love .
Sarmistha

Major Envy!

Take loads more pictures for us next time around! :) And Sarmistha, if you get the chance, do visit the trade fair at Pragati maidan too...we used to make a trip every year, for the sheer joy of looking at crafts from all over the country (and to eat the kachoris at the rajasthan pavilion!) ;)

Gagan , Delhi is full of fun time as soon as fall and winter approaches...fairs , exhibitions and other must see places which are otherwise out of question to visit during the summer are really somethings to look forward to.Thinking of visiting Akshardham light and sound show.
will surely hit the trade fair and gobble some kachoris !!:)
Thanks everyone for dropping by and enjoying the dastkar with me.
